What is SheetSnap?

SheetSnap is a browser-based piano reading, practice and visual creation app operated by Wendell Labs, LLC. Follow annotated scores, repeat selected measures, build speed progressively and customize the piano visuals. It is a practice tool, not a complete course or a substitute for a teacher.

Can I try SheetSnap without an account?

Yes. Free starter pieces and Style Studio can be explored without giving an email address. Verified email sign-in is required to claim a founding beta place and submit member feedback.

What happens after the free Pro beta?

The founding offer gives the first 100 verified members 30 days of Pro + Creator, subject to remaining places. No card is required and there is no automatic billing. After the displayed expiry, access returns to Free unless you choose an available paid offer. Saved work remains yours; access to some tools changes.

Which music files can I import?

Use uncompressed .musicxml or .xml for notation, or .mid and .midi for timed note events, with eligible Pro access. A PDF, photo or locked store viewer is not equivalent to structured note data. Re-export compressed .mxl or proprietary notation files as uncompressed MusicXML before importing.

Can SheetSnap scan a photo of sheet music today?

No. Hosted photo and AI scanning are disabled in the current founding beta. Use a free starter or import supported MusicXML/MIDI. We do not promise that a purchased PDF can become an accurate interactive score.

Choose an interactive source file

Can a practice loop automatically get faster?

Yes. Speed training can increase a selected loop after completed passes or qualifying successful MIDI passes. Set a starting speed, target, increment and pass count. Accuracy-based progression requires supported live MIDI input and the documented practice settings; it is not a claim of musical mastery.

How do annotated scores explain music symbols?

The score reader can show note names beside notation and an ordered guide to detected symbols. Select a symbol to see its name and meaning on the score. The introductory lift effect calls out symbols without changing the music; reduced-motion preferences are respected. Detection depends on the imported notation.

Will signing in back up my music across devices?

Yes. Verified signed-in libraries use private cloud checkpoints for saved scores, markings, practice history and takes. Check the latest successful backup date: failed or oversized uploads leave local work intact but are not backed up. Free accounts have 25 MiB per backup and eligible Pro/beta accounts have 100 MiB. Guest music requires an explicit copy into your account. Keep important originals and finished videos separately.

Can I record my own piano playing for free?

Yes. Record live MIDI or touch-keyboard notes, review the generated notation and save a take that opens in Practice. An optional metronome provides a selected tempo. Microphone audio can also be saved, replayed and downloaded, but does not automatically become a playable score. Basic recording is free; Creator video export has separate access and limits.

Choose MIDI or microphone recording

Does a connected piano work on every phone or browser?

No. Live MIDI needs a compatible browser, device connection, HTTPS and permission. Score playback and importing a MIDI file are separate capabilities. Try a free piece on your actual hardware before relying on MIDI grading; microphone input is experimental.

Check MIDI and browser requirements

Can I remove branding from a recording?

Eligible Creator and founding beta access offers icon + name, icon-only or no branding, with corner placement controls. Free recordings retain branding. Video export remains beta: codec, resolution, frame rate and synchronization depend on browser and hardware. Review a short exported file before publishing.

Explore creator styles and export limits

Can I publish a video of any song?

No. Software access or buying sheet music does not grant publication or synchronization rights. Check permission for the composition, specific arrangement, source file and recordings before sharing or monetizing. Public-domain status can differ by country and edition.

Read the music-rights terms

Which languages are available?

The language selector offers English, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Thai. Localized learning pages include note names, sharps and flats, and two starter-piece guides. Legal pages, the FAQ, comparisons, the device compatibility guide and some advanced controls are currently English. Translation does not guarantee Web MIDI support or network availability in every country.
