The first phrase, note by note
This guide covers measures 1-4. These are note attacks in score order, not equal-length beats. Use the notation for octaves, rests and note lengths.
| Measure | Right hand | Left hand |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | E D C D | No notes |
| 2 | E E E | No notes |
| 3 | D D D | No notes |
| 4 | E G G | No notes |
What to practice
Moving between neighbouring white keys, repeating a note, and holding the final C for a full measure.
- Find C, D and E on the white keys. Play E D C D slowly without looking ahead.
- Practice measures 1-2, counting four beats in each measure. Note letters tell you pitch; the score tells you when to play and how long to hold.
- Add measures 3-4. The two G notes in measure 4 move beyond the first three-key pattern.
- Join both four-measure phrases. Let the final C last four beats before starting again.
