FIRST PIANO WINS

Four first piano songs.

Start with a few familiar notes. Build a steady phrase. Then bring your other hand into the music.

These four free arrangements form SheetSnap's First Piano Wins pack. This is a suggested practice sequence, not a complete beginner curriculum.

Start with Hot Cross Buns

A piece at a time

  1. Hot Cross Buns

A three-note right-hand melody. Learn the melody first, then try the accompaniment in this two-hand arrangement.

  2. Mary Had a Little Lamb

One hand, neighbouring keys and longer held notes. Keep counting through the final note.

  3. Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

One hand with a wider reach and returning phrases. Notice when a familiar pattern comes back.

  4. Ode to Joy

A simplified eight-measure theme on two staves. Learn each hand before putting them together.

When to move on

Choose a short passage, slow it down, and repeat it until the rhythm feels steady. Try once without watching the falling notes, then check the score. You can return to an earlier piece whenever the next step feels too large.

Note labels help you connect staff and keyboard. Gradually turn them off as you recognize the notes. A MIDI keyboard gives direct note input on supported browsers; you can also listen and explore without one.
